FARM-Africa's 2008 Harvest Appeal

Give Poverty the Boot!

Flore Primary School welly displayIt’s a big ambition – but it couldn’t be simpler for your church to get involved, and help Give Poverty the Boot for African farmers this Harvest Festival.

With the support of Churches like yours, FARM-Africa provides practical support to struggling African farmers, support that makes a real and lasting difference. It seems unbelievable in 2008, but two out of every three people in Africa still live in extreme poverty. Hungry and struggling, for so many harvest is a time of despair. But with your help and prayers, more and more farmers in Africa could rejoice and give thanks for successful harvests. So as you celebrate your Harvest Festival this year, FARM-Africa is asking your congregation and Sunday school to support our Harvest Appeal – and help Give Poverty the Boot.

To get started, just visit www.farmafrica.org.uk/givepovertytheboot for a whole range of fantastic ideas and resources to inspire and excite your congregation, together with plenty of fun resources for your Sunday school.  There is everything you need to help your congregation raise much needed money to help Give Poverty the Boot this Harvest.

changing lives
 Learning to grow crops

At a school FARM-Africa works with, Omary learnt how to use a plastic bottle to drip-feed plants, so he doesn’t waste a drop of precious water – but can still grow strong and healthy crops.

We also showed his mother the benefits of an energy saving stove, and she now uses much less wood for cooking. Omary no longer has to spend hours collecting firewood, which is great for the forest as well as the family.

Omary’s mother told us: “I thank FARM Africa because of what they do for us. It serves our lives and it will serve the future generation.”

what your support could achieve

£150

could train and equip a local farmer as a “village vet” – providing crucial basic animal healthcare in their local community to prevent animals dying unnecessarily.

£250

could pay for tools and seeds for a school to set up a demonstration plot to teach local children how best to cultivate their crops.

£500

could provide a school in Africa with poultry, a chicken shed and feed so they can teach children how to rear chickens more effectively.
