What is RSS?

There is some debate about what RSS stands for but the most common version is ‘really simple syndication’.

You subscribe to RSS feeds from pages that you’re interested in. These ‘feeds’ are alerts of new content and are displayed in a newsreader. It’s a good way of keeping track of information on our site.

What is a newsreader?

This is a piece of software that checks the feeds and lets you read any content or files that have been added.

There are many different versions, some of which are accessed using a browser, and some of which are downloadable applications. Browser-based applications allow you to check your feeds form any computer whereas downloadable applications let you store them on your main computer.

What happens once I’ve got a newsreader and I’ve subscribed to RSS?

Your newsreader will indicate when new content has been added to a page you have subscribed to. From there you can click through to the item on our site. This way, you will know when we’ve published something you want to read without having to check every day.
