Vision
A prosperous rural Africa.
Mission
FARM-Africa's mission is to reduce poverty by enabling marginal African farmers, herders and forest dwellers to make sustainable improvements to their wellbeing by effectively managing renewable natural resources.
Our strategy
The lives of hundreds of thousands of farmers and herders have been transformed through FARM-Africa's work over the last 20 years. We have gained a wealth of experience and expertise, which we have channelled into models of good-practice.
Communities who depend on farming for their livelihood face many challenges including climate variations and increasing pressure on limited resources.
Our strategy is to improve people's long term opportunities to manage natural resources effectively, increase their household income, nutrition and access to food and animal healthcare at the same time as protecting their local environment. As part of our project work in these areas we are able to test and develop models of good practice that can be replicated by FARM-Africa and other organisations to scale up the impact we can have on poverty and reach more people.
Through our core teams of agricultural and forestry experts, we offer training and technical advice and we work to influence policy on natural resource management.
Our strategy focuses on achieving four key outcomes:
- Outcome 1
We develop models of good-practice in smallholder development, pastoral development, community forest management and land reform. These models can be applied to diverse situations and they are proven to demonstrably reduce poverty. - Outcome 2
We guide governments towards supporting agricultural development. We work with policymakers to ensure policies foster, rather than inhibit agricultural growth. - Outcome 3
We share our expertise with governments, private sector staff and community members to improve agricultural practices. - Outcome 4
We increase the understanding of, and engagement in, African agricultural development among the public, media, companies and organisations in the northern and southern hemispheres by disseminating lessons about FARM-Africa models using the latest communication methods.
We believe that achieving these outcomes will have a powerful impact on reducing poverty for marginalised African farmers and herders.
