Educational tools for teachers

A teacher's guide to Giving Poverty the Boot!

To help your school Give Poverty the Boot, we’ve produced a range of educational resources. Our ready-to-go lesson plans, which have been prepared for us by a teacher, offer ways to tie in teaching about FARM-Africa, and our work with poor farmers, with national curriculum targeted learning.

As well as an assembly plan to suit all ages, we’ve created detailed lesson plans in core curriculum subjects for Key Stages 1 and 2.

  • In Geography lessons, children will use maps and/or atlases to locate African countries and England, and examine the differences in rural living.
  • Our Art/DT lessons help children explore materials as they create either African-themed collages or pictures of an African farm.
  • In Maths class, our plan draws upon the real lives of African farmers to help children solve word problems and use tally charts.
  • For English lessons, children learn about the typical school day of a child in Africa, which provides the basis for creative writing exercises.

All of these lesson plans, together with other useful resources, are available on our downloads page.

Giving it Some Welly to help Give Poverty the Boot!

As well as teaching your school about FARM-Africa and the lives of African farmers, we hope you’ll have fun and help Give Poverty the Boot by getting stuck in to some fundraising. We’ve put our thinking caps on and devised a range of fundraising ideas that you can adopt or adapt. To get started, have a peek at our Fundraising ideas page.
