Over 300 pupils and 30 households given access to safe drinking water
In the latest stage of our project, 300 pupils at Gidabwanja Primary School, Tanzania, now have access to safe drinking water thanks to a brand new rainwater harvesting tank. This tank - one of five constructed by FARM-Africa in northern Tanzania - has given pupils, teachers and surrounding households access to safe drinking water.
Pupils at the school and members of surrounding households used to walk 8km to the nearest water point. The new tank has reduced the time spent collecting water meaning there’s now more time for pupils to learn and teachers to teach.
The brand new rainwater harvesting tank means that up to 50,000 litres of rainwater can be collected, stored and used throughout the year – especially in the dry season.
A reliable source of water means that Gidabwanja Primary School can now provide lunches for its pupils for the first time and there’s also enough water to keep the school clean. But best of all - 300 pupils, 7 teachers and 30 households in the surrounding the village now have access to safe drinking water.
