Gender equity
FARM-Africa is concerned about gender in order to ensure that the potential in both women and men is unlocked. Women play an important role in both crop and livestock production and so FARM-Africa ensures that men and women are consulted in the planning of any new project and that appropriate interventions are designed with them to meet their needs and improve their lives. This means that the most appropriate member of the household is targeted with the right kind of training that is most appropriate to their needs.
FARM-Africa has some projects that are particularly targeted to women such as the Rural Women’s Empowerment Project in Ethiopia. Our primary focus is on providing the necessary support to enable women to improve their livelihoods, particularly women from female-headed households. However, FARM-Africa also trains women to be Community-Based Legal Assistants. These are members of the community who are trained in women’s rights so they are able to bring any legal injustice to the attention of the local authorities.
